Right now, one in 10 people worldwide don't have access to clean water. That's crazy! Clean water is something we all need to survive. Without it, people get sick and children miss school. Globally, women and girls walk for hours in search of water for their families, leaving them little time for school or work. And, climate change is making things worse. By 2040, up to 4.5 billion people could be experiencing water scarcity. But the water crisis is solvable. By joining #TeamWater, we will show the world that young people care about people and the planet.
Women & girls
When women and girls have access to clean water, their lives change for the better. They no longer have to spend hours each day collecting water or risk their safety on long walks, giving them more time to go to school, earn a living, and care for their families. With access to clean water, they can live with greater health, dignity, and opportunity.
Better Health
Clean water is essential for health—without it, people often have to use dirty water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, which can spread deadly diseases like cholera and typhoid. When clean water is readily available, children get sick less often, miss fewer school days, and parents stay healthier and more productive. By breaking the cycle of waterborne illness, reliable clean water can transform lives in communities around the world, one tap at a time.
Climate resilience
Climate change is making it harder for people to access clean water. Floods can pollute safe sources and droughts are drying up our natural resources. This puts already fragile water supplies at risk of disappearing completely. Providing access to clean, reliable water helps communities stay healthy, grow food, and recover more quickly from climate shocks. It gives families—especially women and girls—the stability they need to thrive in a changing world.
